Writing Generic Social Media Posts for Meetups, Webinars etc

In the last few years, I have made social media posts for many events, meetups, webinars, conferences, podcasts, etc. (Meet Magento, WordCamp, Magento Meetups, Kubernetes Meetups, GopherCon, etc). Writing these social media posts, I observed/noticed/learned/someone pointed out a pattern. I am presenting it in this blog with the intention that it may help someone to get ideas to create social media posts for online or offline events.

First thing: I am only talking about generic social media posts. I am only adding the social media angle that gets your β€˜job done,’ not the design-ish, and creative posts.

Second thing: I am writing down what I do and did, but these are not the only things I did. However, these angles usually help me make social media posts for events.

Start from the bottom

I always begin with the date the event will take place. From there, make a list of the days to the present day. For example: The event is on 15 January. Today is 2 January.

So, I will list the date.

3 Jan

4 Jan

5 Jan

.

.

15 Jan

Once it is done, I start planning the social media messages with the last day. Not writing but planning what type of post will go on that day. Let’s see. Starting from 15 Jan. d = -1 day.

Day by Day Social

15 Jan / Event day / When event is live

We share that the event is live or started. It is done a few minutes after the event is started.

The message could be:

  • XYZ event is LIVE πŸŽˆπŸŽ‰ Are you here yet?
  • Light Camera Action! We are ON. Join us if you have not yet
  • 3, 2, 1. XYZ event is UP.

You can click a picture of the stage or take a screenshot of the online event to share with the message.

15 Jan / Event day / 2-3 hours before the event start

A message 2-3 hours before the event starts. We can say the event will start in a few hours.

For example:

  • XYZ is going LIVE in a few hours. Make sure to register to join!
  • The stage is set for XYZ event. We go live in a few hours.
  • See you at the XYZ event in a few hours.
  • Wait is almost overπŸ’₯

Try to tag the speakers/brands in this post. They may share it with their audience, and you may get more visitors at the last minute.

15 Jan / Event day / 8-9 hours before

This will work when the event is in the evening or night. In morning events, you don’t get the time, so you only do ‘Event is gonna start’ post.

In case the event is at night, you can go with:

  • Today is the dayπŸŽ‰ XYZ event is going LIVE at XYZ PM. Make sure to join us.
  • It’s TODAY πŸŽ‰
  • Stage is set for today πŸŽ‰

14 Jan / Tomorrow is event

One day before the event, we can post messages like these:

  • Only a day to go
  • 24 hours to go
  • Last day to register
  • ⏰Tik tok. XYZ event is tomorrow. Make sure to register.

You can do two post like this in a single day.

12 Jan / 3 days to go

3 days to go message works because 3 is a magic number.

Messages could be:

  • Only 3 days to go
  • Time is nearly up for the XYZ event
  • XYZ event is almost here! Are you prepared/registered/ticket booked?

08 Jan / 7 days to go

7 days to go message works because 7 is a magic number.

Messages could be:

  • Only 7 days to go
  • Only a week left
  • One week left
  • Next MONDAY, we will be having event XYZ

05 Jan / Agenda

If there is an agenda, speaker lineup, event schedule, or any detail, we can share it in different social media messages:

  • Agenda is OUT 🎈
  • Check out our expert speaker lineup
  • Event roadmap is public now
  • Schedule is here!

04 Jan / Announcement

Announcement and launch messages when you share the event page first time:

  • Excited to announce
  • Thrilled to share that we are having XYZ event
  • Guess what we were planning for last 3 weeks?

03 Jan / Teaser

If you are brave enough, a teaser can also be a social media post:

  • Guess what we are brewing?
  • Our team is cooking something up! Can’t wait to share. Tune in.
  • Sushhh.. a little secret.. we are planning something.

Angles for reminder social media post

15, 14, 12, 8, 5, 4, 3 Jan is done. What to share on 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 13 Jan?

Here are several social media angle you can use to make different type of social media posts to fill these dates.

Add to your Calendar / on Sunday

There are people who plan their week on Sunday. We can align our message around them.

  • Planning your week ahead? Don’t forget to add this to your schedule!
  • Booking your calendar for this week! Don’t miss to make time for this event XYZ
  • Your calendar have space for this week? We are having an XYZ event that you can add to —

Share with your friends/colleagues

People share smart things to present themselves as smart. A post can go to sit on this fact:

  • Share it with your friends/colleagues you think would like this!
  • Can’t attend? Your friends/colleagues may like this! Tag them.
  • Bring in your friends/colleagues with you

Ask your questions

A social media message can go to persuade/remind the audience that there will be a Q&A session.

  • Get your questions answered by ABC & PQR
  • Keep your questions & doubts ready for ABC & PQR
  • ABC & PQR will take questions, so join now to get your doubts resolved by experts

Individual sessions

If you have a number of sessions or public engagement, you can make social media posts for every session.

  • ABC is going to present PQR at the XYZ event.
  • Catch ABC discussing PQR LIVE at XYZ event
  • At XYZ event, ABC will be discussing the PQR

Speaker limelight

Instead of sessions, focus on the individual speakers to make social media posts:

  • ABC, CEO of London, will be at XYZ to answer the questions
  • CEO of London, ABC, will be taking you through the
  • London’s CEO will be joining us himself to explain …

This type of post typically does not look good because it spotlights humans, while a brand should prioritize content value. However, sometimes, it works.

Friendly reminder

A simple reminder message never hurts and can be a social media post.

  • Friendly reminder that ….
  • Don’t forget we are having …
  • Save the date. On 15 Jan, XYZ event is happening

Random social media messages

Here are several random angles to make the post:

  • Seats are running out 🎫 Have you saved a spot for the ..
  • See you tomorrow #industry folks at XYZ event …
  • Shoutout to sponsors to offer ..

Writing social media posts for event

I only provide the angle you can take. Writing the post heavily depends on the event description.

The safe formula is:

  • First sentence is a conflict or question
  • Second is the solution promised by the speaker at the event
  • CTA

For example:

example for social media post for an event

Maybe I will write another post to explain this or to type out the process of making ‘creative’ social media posts. Maybe.
