Flipping the Keyword Strategy | Fighting big Sites

15% of Google searches are new every day. Smart marketer take the keyword search volume as an indicator, not the best practice while creating the content.

But big companies with tons of writers and money can create high-quality ‘keyword-specific’ content. With authority and backlinks, their content will rank. They are investing money, resources and time into the article, so they want to make sure every article they publish ranks and brings traffic. So they bet on the safe keywords – keywords with volume.

What if you want to get that same traffic? You cannot replace these ‘big sites’?

Flipping the Keyword would help.

More Keyword Plan I shared:

Flipping the Keyword Strategy

Flipping the keyword means changing the order of the words, adding a word, removing a word, in a keyword to create a new keyword. The new keyword still makes sense, but there is no article using it as the primary content, so it gives you an edge in the SERP.

For example:

  • FTP vs SFTP → difference between ftp and sftp
  • WordPress core web vitals → core web vitals for WordPress
  • Holiday marketing strategies → post holiday marketing strategies
  • Why using wordpress → Reasons of using WordPress
  • Solve 404 error → fix 404 error
  • Clear Magento cache → flush Magento cache

Does it Work?

Let’s take a look at SERP.

Keyword 1: apache vs nginx // difference between apache and nginx

apache vs nginx serp

.

difference between apache and nginx serp

Geeksforgeek on number 1 for the difference keyword, but for vs – it’s on 8th position.

Keyword 2: why using ansible // reasons for using ansible

why using ansible serp

.

Simplilearn cannot defeat the Redhat (the ansible company) in their own keyword, but they did.

Keyword 3: image seo // image seo tips

.

Keyword 4: best harry potter books // harry potter books ranking

harry potter books ranking serp

.

Readersgrotto defeating Collider. Readersgrotto (DR 0.7) and Collider’s DR – 81

Does it ‘always’ Work?

No. It does not always work.

For example:

vitamin c benefit serp

.

vitamin c advantages serp

Vitamin C benefit and Vitamin C advantage — 2 different keyword but showing the same article. The article completely capture the essence of the topic, and why not. It is written by Healthline — one of the best SEO team they have, they destroyed the WebMD.

How does it work?

It works on two principles:

#1 on page keywords

Smart SEO can say anything, but the on-page SEO still works.

Not a complete keyword stuffing, but having the primary keyword in URL, title, subtitles, and in the article is a powerful signal of the content’s topic.

So if there are two articles with these keywords:

  • Best email marketing software
  • Best email marketing tool
email marketing software serp

.

email marketing tools serp

And you search for the ‘best email marketing tool’, which one will rank?

#2 Search intention

The search engine looks for the keyword intention. The search intent behind a keyword.

Two different keywords could have the same search intention.

Person looking for the best wireless mouse could search it as:

  • Best wireless mouse
  • Good wireless mouse
  • Top wireless mouse

All of these have similar search intent, but due to the different keywords, three different websites can rank for these keywords.

But why does it not always work?

You might go and check the SERP and find it not working. Getting the same result for the variety of keywords.

Yes, it happened. And it happens a lot.

Google is getting smarter with broad search. It understands the entire content and gives it a position for a suitable keyword. The high quality writers (like me ;)) use the variety of keywords in one article, making a comprehensive destination for the broad keyword search.

Also, external factors affect the ranking.

But the point is it works many times and you have to wisely customize the keyword so it makes sense, and become a little different than the existing one.

How to do it?

Applying the Flipping the Keyword strategy is quite simple. Find the keywords that you know you cannot rank. The most difficult keywords you know that would be helpful to the business.

Find a way to turn those keywords into a new keyword. You can add a word to them or rearrange the words.

There is no set template for this. You have to use your brain and experience tbh.

If you need help, send the list to me, and I will do it in exchange for money.

That’s it

This type of content planning can help small businesses fight the large organization. But go smartly, as there is no guarantee of its working.

But with proper internal linking, it might work and give you amazing results. Personally, I have ranked many articles using this, that’s why I wanted to share this.

Over to you.
